Homestay or resort? Choosing where to stay in the Andaman Islands
The islands have everything from small family homestays to large beach resorts. Neither is better for everyone. Here is how to think about the choice. You can browse stays by island on the Explore page.
What a homestay is good for
- A quieter, more personal stay, often with local tips from the host.
- Usually simpler rooms and fewer facilities.
- Often easier to negotiate by phone, so a direct call can help.
What a resort is good for
- More facilities in one place, such as a restaurant, pool or activity desk.
- Staff who can arrange transfers and activities for you.
- More predictable standards, especially for families and groups.
Questions to ask either way
- How far is it from the jetty and from the beach, and is transport included?
- What is the cancellation rule if ferries or weather change your plans?
- Is breakfast included, and where do guests eat dinner?
- Is there reliable power backup and mobile signal?
- Which payment methods do you accept?
Location matters more than the room
On a small island, a room close to the places you want to visit can save time and transport cost. Check the map link on the listing and look at the area before you decide.
Booking directly
Many small stays are easy to reach by phone. Calling lets you ask these questions and confirm what you are getting. Each listing shows the phone number.
